Kumasi, once known as the Garden City of West Africa, has been facing serious environmental degradation due to rapid urbanization, increasing population, and inadequate waste management infrastructure. The KKC Trash Bin Initiative seeks to restore Kumasi’s beauty and environmental integrity by installing 60,000 eco-friendly trash bins throughout the city. These bins will be placed every 20 meters to encourage proper waste disposal and reduce the amount of litter that pollutes our streets, waterways, and public spaces.

With a bin placed every 20 meters, we aim to make waste disposal as convenient as possible for all residents, businesses, and visitors in Kumasi. Whether you’re walking down a busy street, visiting a market, or relaxing in a park, you’ll always find a nearby bin to properly dispose of your waste.
Our bins are color-coded to facilitate waste segregation.
As part of this project, KKC will employ and train local youth to monitor, maintain, and manage the trash bins. These individuals will ensure the bins are emptied regularly, the surroundings are clean, and collected waste is properly processed. This creates much-needed job opportunities while engaging the community in the fight against waste pollution.
Keep Kumasi Clean is committed to raising public awareness about the importance of proper waste disposal, recycling, and environmental stewardship. Through school programs, community workshops, and media campaigns, we aim to educate Kumasi residents on how their actions directly impact the environment.
By making trash bins more accessible, we expect to see a dramatic decrease in the amount of litter found in public spaces, markets, and along roadsides. Cleaner environments will lead to healthier, more pleasant communities.
Reducing waste accumulation in streets and public areas will decrease the spread of diseases, improve air and water quality, and reduce the presence of harmful pollutants in the ecosystem. Increased Recycling Rates
Our waste segregation, aim to increase recycling rates across Kumasi. This will not only reduce the strain on local landfills but also create opportunities for local businesses involved in recycling and waste management.
The KKC Trash Bin Initiative provides sustainable employment opportunities for young people, reducing unemployment and giving them valuable skills in waste management and environmental conservation.
By involving residents in clean-up campaigns and waste management education, we hope to foster a sense of community ownership and pride. This waste management culture will have long-term benefits for the city.
